I found a robot dog, and got slightly burned.

Heads up! This newsletter is more than four years old. Links may be out of date or lead to unexpected places, or the context may have changed. Please handle with care.
Hello!
This week, I investigated what robot dogs are actually being used for. And over on the second channel, I tried blacksmithing and only got slightly burned.
The first newsletter to go out after a daylight-savings time change is always tricky, particularly because Europe (where I am) and North America (where my email provider is) change at different times. If that first link doesn't work, wait an hour and it should...!
Elsewhere on YouTube, some good videos that I've found:
- Tom Stanton builds an electromagnetic railgun to launch paper planes.
- Formant has a really nice explanation of the two-envelope paradox; even with my shaky grasp of mathematics, I was able to follow most of it.
- Laura Kampf gets excited about storage containers, and that probably won't make sense until you watch the video. It's lovely to see someone excited about their specialist subject.
- The Muppets sing Mr Blue Sky. It doesn't really need context, it's exactly what it says on the tin.
And other interesting links I've stumbled across this week:
- "What happens when your favorite thing goes viral?" A story about what happens when the kids of TikTok discover another group's beloved song.
- MSCHF have been making interesting things that cross art and capitalism: this time, losing a genuine Warhol painting in a stack of 999 copies, and selling them all off.
- Ten years ago, you could find a wifi network called "Free Public WiFi" basically anywhere there was a crowd. It was spread accidentally by Windows XP: here's why.
- And finally, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has a bridge to sell you. No, really.
I've spent the last week filming some really fun stuff for Tom Scott plus; the channel's gone above and beyond my expectations. The "pilot season" is a success, and the plan is to continue with it into next year at least. So thank you for being part of it!
— Tom
