I make stuff happen

Freeload

Freeload lets you put any polyphonic MIDI ringtone you want on your mobile phone, free.

Really? Free?

Yes. You don't pay me anything. If you don't have free WAP minutes, though, your mobile phone network will charge you for a quick WAP call - probably no more than 10p or 20p, but check before calling.

Why?

Because £3, £4, or even more is a ridiculous amount to pay for a ringtone, and it's about time someone did something about it.

What's the catch?

I don't provide the ringtones, because copyright laws don't let me. Freeload works like a phone data cable - you can upload stuff you have to your phone. All you need is a phone that can cope with polyphonic ringtones and WAP. Most modern phones can do this.

But I don't have any ringtones!

Freeload uses MIDI files. (A MIDI file contains simple instructions for a computer or mobile phone that tell it what sounds to make - this doesn't work with MP3 realtones.) MIDI files are all over the web — some good places to start looking are Music Robot, CoolMIDI and VanBasco's MIDI Search. When you have one you like, save it to your computer and click 'Upload a ringtone' for instructions.

Let's go!
