The Wisdom of the Crowd

Details

Performed at TEDx Liverpool: in which I show that the crowd isn't always wise by conducting a quiz live on stage, collecting answers over Twitter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Were those results really pulled in live?
Yes, honestly. Obviously fake answers (like two wind turbines, or a 10000 lottery ball) were removed, but other than that they were entirely unfiltered. Oh, and that final result? Within .02 of the actual answer. No kidding. I never got a result quite that precise when beta-testing it!
What presentation software were you using?
Google Chrome, running a regular web page written with HTML, JavaScript and jQuery. The data was pulled in using Twitter streams into a command-line PHP app written with the Phirehose class. Yes, it was a bodge. But it worked.
